Privacy policy

YTClipNShare browser extension and web app. Last updated 15 August 2026.

What it reads

To turn a video into a clip link, YTClipNShare reads:

• The address of the YouTube video you are on, and the video ID inside it
• The current playhead position and the total length of that video
• The start and end times you choose, and the four clip options you tick

That is the whole list. It does not read anything else on the page, does not look at other tabs, and does not touch your browsing history, bookmarks, downloads or YouTube account.

In the Chrome Web Store's own categories this is declared as Website content, because the address and the player state are read from the page you are on. No other category is handled.

When it reads it

Only when you ask. The extension does nothing until you click its icon in the toolbar. It has no content script running in the background, so on every other page and at every other moment it is inert. In the web app, nothing is read until you paste a link and press Load.

What happens to it

It is used in the popup or the page to build your clip link, and then it is discarded. Nothing is written to disk, nothing is kept between sessions, and nothing is sent anywhere. There is no server behind YTClipNShare to send it to.

The link you generate is yours. It is placed on your clipboard when you press Copy, and nobody else sees it unless you share it.

What it never does

• No accounts, sign-in or personal details
• No analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels or fingerprinting
• No cookies or local storage used to identify you
• No advertising, and no data sold or shared with anyone
• No remote code. Every line ships inside the package you installed

In the terms Google uses: data handled by this extension is used only for the single purpose described above, is never sold or transferred to third parties, and is never used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

Permissions, and why each one exists

• activeTab lets the extension see the address and player of the one tab you are on, and only after you click the icon. This is what makes pasting a link unnecessary.
• scripting lets it run a small script in that same tab to read the playhead and duration, and to seek while you preview your clip.

There are no host permissions, so the extension has no standing access to any site, including YouTube.

Other services

• YouTube. Clips play in YouTube's own embedded player. Once a video is playing, Google's privacy policy applies to that playback, exactly as it would on youtube.com. Ticking Privacy in the clip options uses youtube-nocookie.com instead.
• GitHub Pages. The web app and this page are static files hosted by GitHub, which may log requests as any web host does. See GitHub's privacy statement.
• The support link. Choosing to open it takes you to a page listing ways to tip. It carries only the name of the app you clicked from, so the page can say thank you. Nothing about you or your browsing goes with it.

Children

YTClipNShare is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone, regardless of age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the previous wording stays in the project's public commit history.
